‘Quantum Droplets’ by Aleks Labuda (in collaboration with Jan Belina) in the Micro-imaging category. Hundreds of images were submitted and our judges narrowed these down to our eventual winner, which we can now reveal is: In early 2019, we asked scientists from across the world to send in their images in the categories of Astronomy, Behaviour, Earth Science and Climatology, Ecology and Environmental Science, and Micro-imaging. The Royal Society Publishing Photography Competition celebrates the power of photography in capturing scientific phenomena happening all around us, and the role great images play in making science accessible to a wide audience. This site will be updated with information on the 2022 competition in due course. All our finalists from previous years can still be accessed below and to the right. Update: Due to difficulties arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, we have postponed this year’s competition to 2022.
